Match Report
Truro School 1st XI vs  Helston Community College
On: Wednesday, 30 Jan 2019
Venue: at Home

After playing Helston at the start of the year and suffering a 3-0 defeat, Truro were looking to improve on their performance.

What an afternoon for a game of football - The sun was shining, not a breath of wind in the air and cool air temperature made for perfect conditions on Truro’s first team pitch.

Truro started slowly with Helston controlling much of the game and were punished early on as their striker neatly placed the ball into the far corner and past the reach of E. Elwell; 1-0 Helston

Helston were very unfortunate to not go 2-0 up after a 25 yard strike looped over Truro’s goalkeeper, only to see the ball rebound off of the bar and scrambled clear from Truro’s defenders.

A. Zhukov was battling well as Truro’s lone striker. Holding the ball up and giving Helston’s central defender a challenge.

Going into the second half Truro started much better, competing for every first and second ball along with increased movement off of the ball. The signs were promising!

A few half chances saw Truro come close with the chance of the half falling to O. Ijere who was unable to take the ball in his stride inside the penalty box and get his shot away with his left foot.

As the half continued, the game became stretched and saw both sides searching for a goal. 1-0 is always a dangerous score line and a goal for either team could see the momentum for both teams switch immediately. 2-0 and Helston would have felt comfortable and the game would have been over, 1-1 and the only result you could envisage would be a Truro win.

The last 5 minutes saw the game ramp up in physicality but no clear cut chances fell for either team. Truro threatened from a couple of corners but couldn’t find that finishing touch.

1-0 FT.
