Match Report
Truro School Girls-U13A vs  County Tournament
On: Thursday, 28 Feb 2019
Venue: Away

The first round was played in less than ideal conditions. There was intermittent rain and after heavier downpours earlier in the morning the playing surface was slippy. Nevertheless, Truro put in a strong performance in the first game, but were disappointed to lose 5-6 to Falmouth. Keeping their heads high and focussed on looking after the ball the team went on to win the rest of their pool games, scoring 5-3 against Wadebridge, 6-5 against Camborne and 9-0 against Liskeard. The team finished second in our group.

With no clear cut winner in the pool, Truro were fortunate enough to qualify for the top round play-offs behind Wadebridge. As the sun came out, the girls' spirits lifted as the knew they were able to improve on last years perfomance where they finished seventh.

In a nail-biting goal-for-goal game against Truro High the centre passes were in Truro's favour and we came away with an 8-7 victory. Next, a re-match against Wadebridge. Determined to show the opposition the quality of netball the team are capable the girls took to the court focussed and gutsy! The girls were rewarded for their efforts with a 10-2 victory - with every member of the squad taking to the court during this match.

Two games left... Next, Penrice. Having played Penrice just a few weeks ago, the girls knew who their stronger players were. 2-2 at half time and, despite a last minute shot at goal in the closing seconds we drew 5-5 as the ball was not deemed to have gone through the net at the time of the umpires final whistle.

With the pool undecided with all teams having lost of drawn there was still everything to play for in the final match. In this match, the team struggled to get the ball to the shooters past the tall defense, so must continue to work on position in front of the defender and finding front space. Unfortunately, a loss 2-7 against Mounts Bay meant the team were unable to win the group.

On goal average, Truro finished third in the tournament. Mounts Bay placed 1st and Penrice 2nd.

Well done to all players!
