Truro School Girls-U13 vs  County Tournament
On: Tuesday, 29 Jan 2019
Venue: at Home

The U13 Girls County Hockey Tournament was contested on Tuesday 29th January.

The weather was abysmal, raining incessantly and even hailing at times but this did not deter the girls spirits and I was very proud of their performances and maturity.

The A team, captained on rotation, were drawn in a pool with two of the four seeded teams from last years tournament, winners Launceston and third placed Penair. The girls started the tournament positively beating Liskeard B team 7-0. They followed this with a 2-1 win against Newquay and a 7-0 victory against Camborne. The toughest two games of the initial pool stages were against Penair and Launceston as expected. The girls raised their game and put in a brilliant effort against Penair to win 3-1. In the final game, and with Launceston having lost already to Penair, the girls needed a draw to go through as section winners. Unfortunately, and despite some excellent play the girls couldn't find the back of the net and a 0-2 score line at full time saw the team out of the tournament due to goals for. All three teams, Penair, Launceston and Truro A finished with four wins, a loss and 13 points but with 19 goals for and 3 against compared with 21 for and 3 against and 21 for and 1 against for Launceston and Penair respectively the girls did not progress to the finals.

In terms of performance, the girls grew with confidence as the games progressed and the flexibility they showed in terms of positions was commendable and certainly helped out when injuries struck. Tara played brilliantly up front listening well to the advice of the coaches and thinking carefully about her positioning and movement off the ball. Libby was fundamental to both attack and defence and worked hard creating chances and tracking back when needed. In goal Lucy was rarely troubled and in defence Jenna and Emily were strong and played the see-saw well. Joint players of the tournament for the coaches were Tara and Libby!
